When PokerStrategy.com was found in early 2005, it was nothing more than a forum. Nowadays it is – but still, the forum is a crucial part. It is the place where our community lives. Where our coaches & members come together and exchange views & knowledge. About gossip, but most importantly about poker theory and – in the form of our popular hand ratings – applied theory.
I cannot highlight too much how important this interactive kind of learning is. Not just because I'm convinced, but also because the statistics tell us so: the average success of a member who actively writes in our forum is ten times higher than the success of someone who is just reading passively or even ignoring the forums.
So one thing we watch closely is the activity in our forums. Especially comparably new, yet small language communities have a problem to get to a level of activity that fuels auto-growth. A forum has to be active & interesting enough to make you come back. And only if you come back, you might become a contributing member.
Some of our languages reach this critical minimum activity quite fast: our Dutch community is a great example for it. Launched not before late '07, the forum activity per member is already very high. In 2008, more than 110,000 posts were written in the Dutch forums. As many languages are roughly on the same level, I'm very curious whether some language will take the clear #3 spot amongst our communities, behind German and Russian.
