In the comments to my last blog entry, nobody asked an interesting question: how do we know that activity in the forums correlates with success at poker?
As we are not the poker operators themselves, we do not know how successful specific individual players in our community are. But: we know that most of our players do not deposit own money & either build up their bankroll on the initial free $50 - or fail.
That means: at least 90% of those players with many StrategyPoints are also successful. Now it is an easy task to compare activity in the forums with the amount of StrategyPoints. And there we see it: community members with at least 1 forum post are statistically 10 times more successful than those with 0 forum posts.
Total Forum Activity
In 2007, a total of 1,414,961 forum posts were written on PokerStrategy.com. In 2008, that rocketed to 3,704,050. A growth rate of more than 160%!
Comparing our different languages also looks interesting. Of course, German as the oldest community still dominates the forum activity. But quite some other languages are catching up! I hope 2009 will see at least 4 communities with more than 500,000 forum posts. Very optimist, I know :)
